Brief Description

The Doctoral School in Architectural Sciences, “Sapienza” University of Rome, Italy offers one Ph.D. fellowship for attaining the degree of “Dottore di Ricerca” (Ph.D.). Five Ph.D. programmes are currently active within the School:

- Architecture and Construction – Space and Society
- Energy Saving and Distributed Microgeneration
- Space and Furnishing Design
- Retraining and Recovery of Urban Heritage
Landscape and Environment Design Management and Planning

The fellowship amounts to 19.800,00 € per year; this amount includes national insurance (INPS) contributions that fellowship recipients are required to pay (8,91% for 2010).

The Ph.D. Programme lasts for three years and may be extended to a fourth year (without grant), subject to approval by the School authorities. At the end of the first and second year of attendance, students have to be evaluated as proficient according to the rules of the Schools.


Eligible Candidates

- have obtained an academic qualification abroad by a non-Italian institution which satisfies the entrance requirements for admission to the Doctoral Programme, i.e., a degree equivalent to the Italian diploma di laurea / laurea specialistica / laurea magistrale, or expect to obtain it before 31 July 2010. Japanese Government (MEXT) Postgraduate Scholarships 2011-2013 For UK Students

Brief Description

We are now accepting applications for the 2011-2013 MEXT Postgraduate Scholarships.This award is offered on an annual basis to those with a minimum of a bachelor's degree, under the age of 35, who wish to continue their studies in Japan. The scholarship is offered for both research and taught postgraduate courses. With regard to a taught course, any additional entry requirements specified by each particular university must be met. No knowledge of Japan or the Japanese language is necessary.

Grantees can pursue research or study in any field as long as it is related to their field of expertise or previous study. It can be difficult, however, to place students who wish to study visual and performing arts. Candidates are encouraged to establish contacts with Japanese academics in their field when applying for the scholarship. University preferences are taken into account as far as possible.

Scholarships are tenable from either April or October each year. Those leaving in April will hold their award for two years, whilst those departing in October will hold theirs for 18 months. The Japanese Government provides return air fare, school fees and a monthly grant of ¥150,000 ( subject to change).

* Students majoring in medicine or dentistry will not be allowed to carry out clinical studies by conducting medical examinations or performing operations, unless they are permitted by the Minister of Health and Welfare under the provisions of the Japanese laws concerned.

** Fields of study must be one of those available at Japanese universities. Traditional entertainment arts, such as kabuki and Japanese dancing, as well as practical training given by factories or companies is excluded.


Eligible Candidates

Nationality: Applicants must have British nationality, eg. A UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands passport. Those who do not hold British Citizenship or British Overseas Territories Citizenship should contact the Japanese Embassy in their own country. Applicants who have Japanese nationality at the time of application will not be eligible.

Age: Applicants must be under the age of 35 as of April of the year they wish to depart for Japan.

Academic Background: Applicants must be university graduates or those who will graduate from a university or college by March or September of the year they wish to depart for Japan.

Study Area: The study area must be within or related to the field that the applicant has previously studied (or is now studying).

Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to study the Japanese language and to receive instruction in Japanese.

Health: In view of the expected psychological challenges due to cultural and environmental changes, mental as well as physical health is an essential prerequisite.

Arrival in Japan: Applicants must be able to leave for and arrive in Japan between the 1st and 7th of April or between the 1st and 7th October.

•Military personnel and military civilian employees registered on the active list are ineligible.

•The Scholarship may be cancelled if grantees fail to arrive in Japan by the appointed date.

•Applicants who have been awarded a Japanese Government Scholarship in the past will not be selected as Grantees unless they have had a few years of research or teaching experience after returning to their home country. However, former "Japanese Studies" scholarship students may apply for admission to the Research Student Programme once they have completed their undergraduate programme after returning to their home countries.

•Applicants who are already enrolled in a Japanese university are not eligible to apply.

•Applicants who have been awarded another scholarship which coincides with the term of the Japanese government scholarship are not eligible.

Scholarship Value

•Allowance: ¥150,000 (subject to change) per month will be given to each Grantee during the term of his/her scholarship, with the understanding that the Scholarship will be suspended if the Grantee is absent from university for a lengthy period of time.

•Return airfare to Japan

•School Fees: Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation and tuition at universities will be exempted.

•6-month Japanese language course (if deemed necessary by the university)

•Help finding accommodation

•Medical expenses: Students may receive subvention for part of their medical expenses in Japan.

Selection Procedure :

The Embassy of Japan in London will select preliminary candidates by inviting short listed candidates to interview. Those who have been selected as preliminary candidates will be recommended to MEXT, who will choose tentative Grantees through a screening committee. The scholarship Grantee will finally be selected after the university placement has been confirmed.

•In principle, applicants who wish to pursue such fields of study as Japanese linguistics, Japanese literature, Japanese history, Japanese law etc., will not be selected as Grantees unless they have sufficient knowledge of the Japanese language to follow these courses.

•As part of the preliminary selection, an assessment test in Japanese will be given to all applicants. Candidates may also opt to take an English examination, in which case the highest result will be forwarded to MEXT.

World Habitat Awards 2010 In Uk

Overview

The World Habitat Awards were established in 1985 by the Building and Social Housing Foundation as part of its contribution to the United Nations International Year of Shelter for the Homeless.Two awards are given annually to projects that provide practical and innovative solutions to current housing needs and problems, from the global South as well as the North.
Every year an award of £10,000 is presented to each of the two winners at the annual United Nations global celebration of World Habitat Day.

The World Habitat Awards competition has a two-stage entry process:

Stage I submissions need only comprise a summary of the key aspects of the project. From these preliminary submissions, ten projects are selected by an Assessment Committee to go forward to Stage II of the competition.

Stage II submissions are evaluated by an independent advisory group before being put to a panel of international judges, which include the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the Rector of the United Nations University, Tokyo. Evaluation visits are carried out to some of the projects prior to the final judging.
All Stage I submissions must be received by 1st November 2010.

Pakistan: Indigenous Ph.D. Fellowship Program (5000 Fellowships)

Overview

The programme aims at awarding of 5000 PhD scholarships in various field of studies in different phases/Batches. The priority areas for research include Engineering Sciences, Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, Information Technology, Basic Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Humanities/Social Sciences and Health Sciences. Scholarships however, are not restricted to specified subject/areas and may also be awarded to scholars who would like to conduct research in any area not specified in the programme.

The objectives of the scheme are:

1. To stimulate research and development activities in public sector Universities in Pakistan.
   

2. To create a critical mass of highly qualified human resources in all fields taught at the advanced level in the world. These locally qualified academics and researchers will improve the R&D potential of our teaching and research institutions and the training potentials of our universities (public as well as private) and feed the industrial sector.
   

3. To promote M.Phil/M.S (Engr) and Ph.D. courses and research work in all fields. These M.Phil, M.S. (Engr) and Ph.D. students will work on problems of interest to Pakistan and will address social and economical problems critical to the development of Pakistan.
   

4. The specific objective is to give scholarships to a total of 5000 students in five batches. 1000 Ph.D scholars in the first year as batch-I, starting from September 2003. These students will initially be enrolled in the respective M.Phil/M.S (Engr) programs at the Universities and will subsequently become Ph.D. scholars. Four batches of Ph.D students will follow in subsequent four years.

Eligibility

1. Scholar should have a degree with minimum 18 years of education and
   1) No 3rd division in entire academic carrier (where “division” criteria applicable)
   2) No ”D” grade in entire academic carrier (where “grade” criteria applicable)
2. In case of Mphil leading to PhD schoalr must have completed MS/MPhil fulfilling HEC Quality Criteria and have been enrolled in PhD studies on or before 31st May 2010.

6. The Scholar will have to be a full-time regular student to avail the scholarship. Those who are employed have to arrange study leave for the full duration of the program.

Overview

The NRF provide two types of complementary student support:

• Free-standing scholarships (SA students only) and fellowships which will be awarded directly to students undertaking full-time study, on a competitive basis. Students must apply for these awards themselves, and remain responsible for the submission of all required documentation.

Brief Description

The Commission for Educational Exchange offers approximately 35 scholarships annually for study, teaching and research in the United States at the graduate (Master’s or Ph.D) or post-doctoral level. The awards vary from round-trip travel to grants covering all expenses for an academic year. Candidates for the Commission's grants must be citizens of Belgium or Luxembourg and have a post-secondary degree (minimum the equivalent of a license or a Master’s) with outstanding results. Special scholarships are available for secondary school teachers, foreign language teaching assistants, and for study in business, law, science, technology, engineering and journalism.

No awards can be confirmed until candidates have submitted written evidence that they will dispose of adequate funds to carry out their plans in the United States.

Overview

This Scholarship is by Fulbright in the U.S. and is now available in four, or the academic year 2011-2012. It is intended for outstanding students in science, technology and engineering disciplines to study for doctoral.

Fulbright Institute in Iceland will nominate two candidates and one alternate and jury in the U.S. then choose up to 40 students from among applicants from all over the world to receive the grant. Those who receive the grant will also receive admission to some of the most prestigious U.S. universities. The grant will pay educational and living expenses cost the beneficiary of up to three years, but it is expected that the scholarship students in the same way to finish a degree. UK: KESS Scholarship - PhD in Sport and Exercise Science 2010/2011

Brief Description

Aberystwyth University are seeking to recruit a 3-year PhD student to work on a project
entitled: Effects of bovine colostrum supplementation on immune and gut responses to exercise
The prospective applicant should have a minimum of a 1st or good 2:1 in a relevant degree, and
be available to take up the studentship on 1 July 2010. The project is part-funded by the
European Social Fund (ESF) through the European Union’s Convergence programme
administered by the Welsh Assembly Government. KESS PhD scholarships are collaborative
awards with external partners. (Applicants need only apply, they do not need to search for
partners).

15 fully funded Distance learning scholarships available in 2010 for scholars in east and southern African Commonwealth countries to study the MSc in Education for Sustainability at London South Bank University.

The internationally recognised EFS programme at LSBU has over 15 years of experience working with practitioners to build capacity in education for sustainability. The programme was set up in 1994 as the result of an collaboration between a consortium of development and environmental non governmental organisations and the university. Participants have been drawn from a wide range of backgrounds, professions and geographical regions and many graduates have gone on to become key change makers in their fields and to take up influential positions in key organisations. We are currently looking for applicants who are working in east or southern African Commonwealth countries, who are in leadership or potential leadership roles in their organisation and who are interested in becoming part of a community of learning and practice in EFS. USA: Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program For Oman Citizens

The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program provides opportunities for young Omani teachers of English, American Studies, Journalism and Media, and American or English literature to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency, and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States. Each FLTA Fellow will spend one year at a U.S. university where he/she will teach Arabic while enrolling in at least two U.S. studies or teaching methodology classes each semester.

During the academic year, FLTA Fellows are also invited to participate in special Fulbright workshops and Fulbright Enrichment Seminars.

The program is fully funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

To be eligible, applicants must:

USA: Fulbright Study Grant For Moroccan Students

Each year MACECE awards a number of merit-based scholarships to Moroccan nationals for graduate studies in the U.S. leading to Master's or Ph.D. degrees. Scholarships generally cover expenses including tuition, books, round-trip fare and living stipend. Graduate study grants are offered in all fields except medicine, pharmacy and dentistry. In addition to a TOEFL score of at least 550, candidates are required to submit scores of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or of the GMAT exam for MBA and Finance applicants.


Candidates must also have excellent academic records and recommendations as well as intellectually compelling reasons for wishing to pursue their studies at an American university. Financial need is not a criterion for selection. Completed applications, including required test scores, must be submitted by mid-May for scholarships beginning approximately fifteen months later.

The deadline for applications for studies in any given academic year is mid-May of the previous academic year (e.g. for studies beginning in August 2011, the application must be submitted by May 2010). Candidates must have completed a four-year bachelor's degree or four-year equivalent (e.g. 3 year licence+1 year in a Maitrise or Master program) at the time of selection in June. Preference is given to applicants who have not previously studied or lived in the USA for an extended period. MBA applicants must have had at least one year of relevant professional experience at the time of submitting their applications.

UK: University of Edinburgh Business School Leadership Scholarships

Overview

Three Leadership Scholarships are awarded to students from any country in the University of Edinburgh Business School. Each scholarship has a value of £10,000.

Eligibility

The scholarships are open to individuals applying for admission onto the full-time MBA or MBA in International Business in September 2010 who have an excellent academic record and who can demonstrate leadership potential.Although applications for the scholarships should be made before 31 May 2010, the scholarships will only be awarded to applicants who have accepted their offer through payment of the deposit. Applicants who hold full sponsorships are not eligible for the scholarship.If an applicant is awarded a scholarship, but subsequently declines their offer of admission on the MBA programme, the award of the scholarship will be withdrawn and awarded to another applicant.

Those that apply for a Leadership Scholarship, but are unsuccessful will be automatically considered for a Director’s Scholarship.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships For Citizens From Gemany, EU and Non-EU Countries

Brief Description

The Heinrich Böll Foundation awards scholarships to German and foreign doctoral students in keeping with the guidelines provided by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Foreign Office (AA). Successful applicants are entitled to two years of scholarship funding plus an extension of up to two times one half year, if applicable. A) The following requirements apply to German applicants, applicants from other EU countries and Bildungsinländer/innen1 (funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research):

• Approval: applicants for a PhD-scholarship must have been accepted as a doctoral student by a state or state recognized institution of higher education in Germany. In justified cases, the scholarship may also be granted to applicants who have been accepted at a institute of higher education abroad. B) The following requirements apply to students from outside the EU (funded by the Federal Foreign Office):
• Approval: applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent and must have been accepted as a doctoral student by a German institution of higher education.
• Research stays abroad for more than four weeks can only be financed with the Federal Foreign Office’s special permission. Funding is primarily intended for research stays in Germany. All applicants must have a good command of the German language. Please note that the selection workshop is generally in German. Interviews in English are only possible by way of exception.

Selection Process

Three stages are involved when the Heinrich Böll Foundation selects applicants for its doctoral
scholarships:

1. Submission of your written application documents
2. Specialist interview with a liaison lecturer
3. Selection workshop with an individual interview and a group discussion

At each stage only a small group is chosen from all of the applicants. This group then proceeds to the next stage. You will receive a letter informing you about the decisions following each selection stage.

Holland: StuNed Scholarship Program For Indonesian Students

StuNed, Studeren in Nederland, is a scholarship programme focusing on mid-career professionals, as part of the bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands. The scholarship programme aims to contribute to the development of Indonesia through strengthening the human resources of Indonesian organisations. Individual applicants may apply for master degree or short courses in the Netherlands, whilst institutions may apply through the StuNed Group Application and/or for refresher courses.

The StuNed programme is supporting the Dutch policy for development co-operation with Indonesia and aims to contribute to the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals in 2015. The framework for the bilateral relations between the Netherlands government with Indonesia is laid down in the Multi-Annual Strategic Plan 2008-2011 (MASP). The overall objective is to strengthen bilateral relations and to support Indonesia in realizing its medium term development goals. The MASP aims to achieve the the following four strategic goals:

1. Improved democracy, stability, human rights and governance, resulting in a just and safe society;

2. Improved economic governance, resulting in sustainable economic growth and an equal distribution of growth through society, in order to decrease poverty more rapidly;

3. Improved environmental and climate policy and implementation, resulting in increased use of renewable energy, sustainable management of natural resources, reducing emissions of greenhouse gas and adaptation to climate change;

4. Intensified bilateral relations through a 'comprehensive partnership framework'.



The StuNed programme focuses on generating and strengthening institutional capacity in support of the above mentioned strategic goals. Related study fields are: education, rural development, environment, water management and sanitation, trade, good governance and human rights, gender, and culture.

StuNed for Tailor-Made Training Programmes

Institutions, consortia and functional networks (hereafter called institutions/networks) may submit a collective application for staff upgrading. Training needs can consist of existing master courses (including the Dutch part of a double degree programmes) and short courses or tailor made programmes.

Priority will be given to the Indonesian partner organisations of the Dutch Embassy. Institutions and other organization related to the development sectors which are mentioned in the MASP are also eligible.

Tailor made programmes are defined as short courses of which the starting date, location and/or time frame is adjusted to the institutions requirements. The programme may take place entirely or partly in Indonesia or the Netherlands.

Refresher Courses

The refresher course is designed for the Dutch alumni and StuNed alumni in particular. The aim of refresher courses is to refresh and up-date the alumni with the latest knowledge and skill in their fields. Priority will be given to issues relate to the MASP.

Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme 2010/2011

Leiden University offers scholarships to outstanding all nationalities students pursuing a master’s degree programme at Leiden University. The scholarship programme is intended for candidates showing the highest achievements and promise for a master’s degree study starting in September 2010 or February 2011. The maximum study period is 12 months (1-year programme) or 24 months (2-year programme).

For whom?

1. Non-EU/EEA students enrolling in a Leiden University master’s degree programme starting September 2010 or February 2011 ( All MA, MSc and LL.M programmes as mentioned on the website Master’s programmes in Leiden).
2. All nationalities enrolling in the following programmes starting September 2010 or February 2011:

Language: French language ability commensurate with the requirements of the project

 About The Program

You have a Masters degree and seek to gain a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) supported for 3-years by one of the most prestigious European scholarships (MC-ITN). You possess great intellectual curiosity and enjoy doing both professionally relevant and academically rigorous research in English, while living and working in France.

We are looking for excellent candidates with an interest in combining empirical socio-economic research, in our case technology and innovation management in semiconductors, micro- and nano-electronics. A sound background in research methods using both, quantitative (statistical and social network analysis) and qualitative (ethnography, interviewing and participant observation) methods is mandatory...

Japanese Government is offering scholarship for combodian students populrraly known as MONBUKAGAKUSHO scholarship for 2011.

1.FIELDS OF STUDY

Fields of study must be subjects which applicants will be able to study and research at Japanese universities. Keep in mind, however, that a student who majors in medicine, dentistry or welfare science will not be allowed to engage in clinical training such as medical care and operative surgery until he/she obtains a permit from the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare under applicable Japanese laws. Majors in traditional entertainment such as Kabuki and classical Japanese dances, or in subjects that seek practical training in specific technologies or techniques at factories or companies are excluded.
