Am I an eligible student?

In order to be eligible for these awards you need to meet the residence conditions. This means you must have been ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for the three years immediately before the relevant date (the first day of the first academic year of the programme). If you are not a UK or other EU national, you must also have 'settled status' in the UK (as set out in the Immigration Act 1971) on the relevant date. To find out about getting settled status, you can visit the Home Office website at www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk or phone their helpline on 0870 6067766. If you have not been living in the UK, you may still qualify depending on your circumstances.

You must also be ordinarily resident in Scotland on the relevant date, unless you are an English, Northern Irish or Welsh domiciled student taking a degree course in one of the Allied Health Professions. In this case, you must be ordinarily resident in your home country at the time you apply for your first year of grant, fees or loan.

How do I apply for a nominated place?

You must have an unconditional or conditional offer of a place on one of the programmes listed above and meet the eligibility conditions prescribed by SAAS. You should then contact graduate.admission@stir.ac.uk to confirm your interest in seeking a nominated place.

Please note: A quota system is operated across the eligible programmes therefore early application is advised as PSAS places are strictly limited on each programme.

The programme co-ordinators will review all eligible applications and make their nominations for quota places for each programme, and this process is normally started in early May. If you are nominated the University will contact you in writing to confirm (from May/June) and will supply the information to SAAS, and you must then apply on-line or download and complete the appropriate application form from the SAAS website. Please note: SAAS can consider offering support only to those students nominated by their University, therefore will not accept direct applications from students who have not been nominated by the University.

If you meet the eligibility conditions prescribed by SAAS, and we are unable to offer you a quota place for your chosen programme of study, your name will be placed on a reserve/waiting list and if a place becomes available before the start of your programme (August/September) we will contact you.

Please also note that if you are nominated for funding they you can apply for tuition fees only assistance.

The final deadline for submitting your application to SAAS once your nomination is confirmed by University of Stirling is Friday 29 October 2010.
