Ireland: Different Scholarships At Trinity College Dublin 2010

The Department of Political Science at Trinity College Dublin offers two unique postgraduate programmes

(1) M.Sc. in Comparative European Politics (the deadline has been extended and applications will be accepted through July 1, 2010)

The M.Sc. in Comparative European Politics offers students an innovative combination of knowledge of politics in contemporary Europe and rigorous research training. This course examines policies, politics and public opinion in the European Union and its member states. The course also equips students with the research training required to conduct independent political research. Therefore, in addition to substantive modules on various aspects of comparative politics, including the governance of the European Union, the course also includes modules on research methods.

(2) M.Sc. in International Politics

This NEW M.Sc. in International Politics offers graduate students a combination of rigorous training in the study of international politics with a comprehensive empirical approach to understanding many prominent problems in contemporary world politics, especially topics where domestic and international politics cannot be understood in isolation from each other. These topics include democratisation, international cooperation, development and foreign aid, international conflict as well as the politics of many environmental issues and their implications for the politics of developing countries. Students will also receive training in research methods.

(2) PhD programme

This is a creative departure from the traditional PhD offered elsewhere in much of Europe and is designed to produce rigorously trained, widely-read and well-rounded political scientists, able to take their place in the forefront of the profession.

The programme combines an intensive set of courses on the substance and methodology of research along with a traditional emphasis on conducting original research. In the first year students follow a number of courses in the qualitative and quantitative aspects of research, a course in political behaviour and comparative politics, which reflects the expertise and interests of most members of the Department, and develop a research proposal for the final thesis.
