UK: Colt Foundation Fellowships 2010 At University Of Edinburgh

The Foundation offers three-year grants to PhD students in medicine whose subject is relevant to the field of occupational and environmental health.

The Colt Foundation grant runs for three years, with a first year rate of £12,000. The grant does not attract tax.

In recent years grants have been made in respect of:

* The effects of intermittent or prolonged exposure to environmentally relevant UV radiation in mammalian cells
* Geographical information systems and statistics in environmental health
* Asthma prescribing and air pollution in space and time
* Development and validation of a diagnostic tool for occupational asthma based on serial lung function measurements
* An investigation into the potential toxicological hazard of nanotubes on the lungs
* The positive work environment and its effect on employee health
* A molecular approach to understanding the mechanism(s) of silica-induced lung carcinogenesis
* Temperature-related morality in New Delhi and Cape Town
* Air pollution and children's health

Applying

Applications must be received no later than 17 October 2010.

Applications are invited from prospective students qualified in science or medicine and should include:

* An outline of the proposed research
* A CV
* A letter of support from the proposed supervisor
* The contact details of two referees

The application must be submitted by the student personally. Applicants should quote reference CF08D when applying. Completed applications should be sent directly to the Foundation.
