Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship 2010/2011 For International Students

USST administers 3 types of international students scholarship offered by the Shanghai Municipal Government in an attempt to encourage excellent international students and scholars to study at USST.

I. Types of scholarship and who shall apply

Type A (full scholarship)

It is granted to excellent international students who will apply for Master / Doctor degree program in USST

Type B (partial scholarship)


It is granted to excellent international students who will apply for Bachelor / Master / Doctor degree program in USST

Type C (scholarship for outstanding students)

It is granted to outstanding international students who take long term degree program in USST.



II. The scholarship contains:

 Type A (full scholarship)

Students who are granted the type A scholarship will be exempt from enrollment fee, tuition, basic textbook fee and dormitory charge and will be provided with insurances for serious illness and incidents for free. The Master students will have 1,100 RMB and the Doctor students will have 1,400 RMB every month respectively for daily use.

Type B (partial scholarship)

Students who are granted the type A scholarship will be exempt from enrollment fee, tuition, basic textbook fee.

Type C ((scholarship for outstanding students)

It is granted once in an academic year.


III. Prerequisites of the applicants


1. Non-Chinese citizen in good health

2. Applicants pursuing Bachelor degree should hold Bachelor degree diploma or the equivalent and should be under the age of 25, and the applicant can only apply for Type B or Type C scholarships.

 Applicants pursuing Master degree should hold Bachelor degree diploma or the equivalent and should not be under the age of 35.

Applicants pursuing Doctor degree should hold Master degree diploma or the equivalent and should not be under the age of 40.

3. The applicants should have excellent academic records.

4. The applicants should be in default of any other Chinese government scholarship...


IV. When to apply and how to apply

 Type A (full scholarship)

Application of type A will be processed by the university from Jan 1st to May 15th every year.

Application material:

1. Application Form for Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) Class A, filled in Chinese or English

2. Certified copies and Chinese or English translations of your highest education certificate, graduation and degree certificates. On Campus Proof should be provided for students who are taking study programs in any university.

3. Official transcripts of study records in Chinese or English. Chinese or English translations of the transcripts should be certified.

4. Study Plan in China (no less than 1,000 words) in Chinese or English;

5. Letter of Recommendation in Chinese or English from two professors or associate professors from the institution where the applicants have completed or will complete study program;

6. Copy of Chinese language proficiency test result of HSK 6 or above (for students taking Chinese programs);

7. Students who apply for art programs should provide their works

 Type B (partial scholarship)

Application of type A will be processed by the university from Jan 1st to May 15th every year.

Application material:

1. Application Form for Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) Class B, filled in Chinese or English

2. Certified copies and Chinese or English translations of highest education certificate, graduation and degree certificates. If the applicant is currently a student or at work, relevant proof should be provided by the institution or company, the Chinese or English translation of which should be certified;

3. Official transcripts of study records in Chinese or English. Chinese or English translations of the transcripts should be certified.;

4. Study Plan in China (no less than 1,000 words) in Chinese or English for Master or Doctor degree program pursuant;

5. Letter of Recommendation in Chinese or English from two professors or associate professors from the institution where the applicants have completed or will complete study program is required for Master or Doctor degree persuants;

6. Copy of Chinese language proficiency test result of HSK 6 or above (for students taking Chinese programs);

7. Students who apply for art programs should provide their works

Type C (scholarship for outstanding students)

Application of type C will be processed by the university from Mar 1st to Sep 30th every year.

Application material:

1. Application Form for Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) Class C, filled in Chinese or English.

2. Official transcripts of study records.

All type A, type B and type C scholarships should be applied for each academic year. Qualified applicants can apply consecutively.



V. Processing and Final Results


Final results of the scholarship evaluation process will be publicly notified in each July and November and an official certificate will be issued to each winner.

 VI. About Visa for Study in China and Registration Formalities of scholarship Winner

1. Visa for study in China

The winners of Scholarship type A and type B who directly come to Shanghai from abroad should apply for the student visa (for students who will study for over 6 months, "X" visa should be applied) to the Chinese embassy or consulate in their country with original and copy of Admission Notice, Visa Application for Study in China (JW202), Foreigner Physical Examination Form, Scholarship Award Notice and valid passport.

2. Registration

If any scholarship winner fails to register within the time limit without the permission of the institution, he / she will be regarded as giving up the admission and the scholarship.

3. Health certificate and residence permit

Students with scholarship should show Foreigner Physical Examination Form and go to the Shanghai Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau International Travel Health Center for verification. If they do not have health verification from the center, they should repeat the physical examination until they receive a Health Certificate from the said center. Anyone who refuse the physical examination or enter China with diseases that will be rejected to enter China as regulated by the Chinese laws and regulations will be requested to leave China and the scholarship will be canceled accordingly. The relevant expense is on the said students. The accommodation and daily use funds from Scholarship A will be stopped from that month.

Students with scholarship should apply for the Residence Permit to the Exit-Entry Bureau of Shanghai Police Station within 30 days from the date they enter China.
