USA: Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program For Oman Citizens

The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program provides opportunities for young Omani teachers of English, American Studies, Journalism and Media, and American or English literature to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency, and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States. Each FLTA Fellow will spend one year at a U.S. university where he/she will teach Arabic while enrolling in at least two U.S. studies or teaching methodology classes each semester.

During the academic year, FLTA Fellows are also invited to participate in special Fulbright workshops and Fulbright Enrichment Seminars.

The program is fully funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be between the ages of 21 and 29 at the time of application
  • Have a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), 79-80 (internet-based) or an IELTS score of 6.0
  • Be a teacher of English language, journalism and media, American or English literature or be on training to become a teacher in above-mentioned subjects (prior teaching experience is preferred)
